Imessage is waiting for activation?

Everything was working fine until last night when iMessage stopped working. I am able to receive and send SMS but whenever I try sending a text with imessage the recipient receives it via my apple id email. In my settings, under imessage, it says that it’s waitting for activation for the past 24hours. I am not sure why what to do at this point to fix the issue?

Thank you Daniel, but I have tried everything and it’s still not working.

What model iPhone are you using?
You could try to see if there's a carrier update by going to: Settings - General - About. If there is an update it will prompt you to apply it.

iPhone 7
iMessage was working fine until last night. Same thing on my mom’s phone (iPhone 6) that she activated last night.

Two more things you can try:
1:Go to Settings > Messages and turn off iMessage.
Go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off FaceTime.
Restart your device.
Turn iMessage and FaceTime back on.
2:Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that your time zone is set correctly.

I have the same issue, actually I was helping a friend that coudn't activate iMessage and when I logged out trying to show him I coudn't log back in. iPhone SE and iPhone 8, both on Fizz

I did everything until step 15... "Contact your mobile phone network or carrier". Yup it seems it's impossible to do so here, i've been trying since yesterday and still no answer.
